Wild Bee National Reference Collection of Italy

A reference collection consists of two specimens, a male and a female, for every species of a taxonomic group.
Once completed, it allows to compare a specimen to be identified with all the species of its Genus, i.e. its taxonomic category.
Compared to diagnostic keys this tool allows faster identification of a specimen, because gathering in one box all the species of a national territory gives greater self-confidence to the expert who needs to identify.
This is, in conclusion, an effective diagnostic and learning tool that enables a scholar to quickly find the way around a taxonomic group. To learn more download the poster Poster Collnazrif EN

The collection is at a very early stage so far, consisting of 419 species, that is about 40% of the Italian fauna (figures until October 2017).
